LUZIA DE RIPA
(WHITE)
D.O. - SPAIN

Region/ Sub-Region: Spain, Basque, Txakoli, Arabako D.O.

Grapes: 90% Hondarrabi Zuri, 10% Izpiriotza Txipia (Petite Manseng).

Soil: Limestone and clay mixed with gravel.

Vinification:  Larrimbe vineyard, “my mother’s vineyard”

Nose: Pears, green apple, citrus fruits, fresh peppermint, eucalyptus, mineral notes, and white peppercorns.

Taste:   Fresh, lively, and persistent with notes of green apple, lemon peel, smoke and wet rock minerality. The acidity allows a long life with an interesting evolution of its aromas.

Gastronomy: Perfect with seafood, baked fish, shellfish, smoked cheese, and white meat dishes.

Color:  Clean and transparent with straw yellow and greenish hues. 

 

Luzia de Ripa is made from a single vineyard called Larrimbe, “my mother’s vineyard”.  This wine is made in honor of Luzia Ripa and her dedicated work in the vineyards. It is a tribute to her, to women working the land, and to women vine-growers.

-Dr. Owen Bargreen, Oct ’21 gave 91 points to 2020 Luzia de Ripa.   “Vibrant and full of life, the 2020 Luzia de Ripa reveals bright acidity alongside layers of bitter lemon, white peach and ginger undertones, with light effervescence adding to the enjoyment. Enjoy now while the brightness remains.”

-International Wine Report, May ’19 gave 91 points to 2018 Luzia de Ripa.

“A stunning blend of 90% Hondarrabi Zuri with 10% Izpiriotza Txikia, this opens with a beautiful boquet of kumquat, Gravenstein apple and suggestions of baking spices that come through together on the nose. The palate is intensely fresh with bright kiwi, pink grapefruit and green apple flavors.”
