Mestres

Unleash your senses and embark on an exhilarating journey through the remarkable world of Mestres. Step into a winery steeped in history, where passion and energy flow through the veins of the 30th generation of the Mestres family, preserving a legacy that dates back to the 14th century.

From ancient documents dating as far back as 1312 to the establishment of their iconic winery in Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, Penedes, Spain, in the 1600s, Mestres stands as a testament to enduring traditions and unwavering dedication. Their roots run deep, intertwining with the very essence of winemaking.

In 1959, Mestres made history by registering the word "CAVA," a symbol that would forever signify the excellence of their sparkling wines aged in cellars. They were pioneers of their time, introducing the world to the concept of "non-dosage" cava in 1945 with the creation of Visol, a wine that embodies purity and authenticity.

Mestres pays homage to their terroir through the exclusive use of traditional grape varieties: Xarel-lo, Parellada, and Macabeu. These grapes, meticulously hand-harvested from their own 74 acres of vineyards, flourish at an elevation of 690 feet above sea level, standing as a testament to the resilience of some of the oldest vines in the region. In their quest to preserve their heritage, no insecticides or herbicides are used in the vineyards, allowing the grapes to attain unparalleled levels of ripeness and intensity.

Traditional methods, passed down through generations, form the cornerstone of Mestres' winemaking practices. Their commitment to time-honored techniques is evident in the extensive aging of their wines in ancient caves, with the youngest wines maturing for a minimum of 20 months. Every bottle that graces their cellar proudly bears the distinction of being a Reserva or Gran Reserva, embodying the richness and complexity that can only be achieved through patient dedication.

The journey of a Mestres wine is a labor of love, crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail. Aged under natural cork, the wines develop a gentle oxidation that imparts a

roundness and depth to the palate, elevating the tasting experience to new heights. Riddling, a process carried out by hand, allows the yeast to settle in the neck of the bottle, enhancing the complexity and character of each wine. Dégorgement, the precise removal of sediment, is meticulously performed by skilled hands, ensuring that every bottle upholds the highest standards of quality.

Amidst the passage of time, one thing remains unchanged at Mestres: their unwavering commitment to their craft and the preservation of their terroir. With every sip, you can taste the essence of authenticity and respect that permeate their wines—a testament to centuries of tradition and a celebration of the land from which they spring.
